Mr. Hedley's trip to the Niah Caves

Thirty years ago, Mr. Hedley with his wife and his daughter went from Brunei to Sarawak which is in the East of Malaysia. They traveled by his Nissan-Dotson. However in some places they had to use a ferry, and a small boat.

They started the trip at 9:00 am in the morning, and they arrived there in the early evening. They had to stop in the government rest house and spent the night there. In the government house they shared the cold drinks they had bought with a group of scientists who lived there and who studied the jungle’s life. Unfortunately they had to sleep without an AC. The next morning they walked along the jungle path for half an hour until they reached the Niah caves. They saw inside the cave a group of men who wore lights on their hats and climbed up to the top of bamboo poles. At the top of the poles they scraped off bird’s nests and the men down in the cave packed the nests into sacks. They always do this and sell it for the Chinese to make bird’s nest soup.

They went back to Brunei in the afternoon. This was quite an adventure and one they would never forget, Mr. Hedley said.

the indoor sky diving

Last weekend before the national Day I was sitting at home doing nothing. I felt bored, so I decided to take my niece and go sky diving in Abu Dhabi Country Club.

It was in the afternoon so we had our lunch and then we left home at 1:25 p.m. We arrived there at 1:45 p.m. Unfortunately the class had already started. However, I had to book for a class at 3:00 p.m. I decided to wash my car so I went down to ADNOC station and there were a few cars waiting. I thought I’ll make it through, but I didn’t. We reached the club at 3:15 and the class had started again . they told us that the class wouldn’t take much time, and we just had to waer the sky diving clothes. After a few minutes they let us in. First they taught us how to dive, and then we started it.

All in all, the sky diving was fun, and I’m so enthusiastic to do it again. However, next time I’ll do the outdoor sky diving.

How the orange juice is made

Orange is a very healthy juice full of vitamin C. The juice in the market is different from that you make in your home. I’m going to describe how orange juice is made.

Firstly, the fruit is unloaded from the trucks. Then it’s graded, washed, and sized. After that the fruit is sent to the juice extractor and the waste is sent to animal feed. The juice is sent to the evaporator at high temperature for a short time. Next, the juice is concentrated and refrigerated. Thereafter, the juice is sent to the canning machine. Then, it goes to the ships. After that it comes to the juice factory and the water is added to the concentrate. That’s where the juice in the market comes from.

In conclusion, the steps are very easy. However, it is a long process and it takes time to do it.

Reflection 2

I’m going to tell you how to write a compare and contrast essay between two things. As our teacher Mr. Hedley taught us, we have to write four paragraphs. However, you can write three paragraphs if you are trying to be different from others. The first paragraph as usual is the introduction, and it has to be between 30-40 words and try to make it strong. The second paragraph is the body. However if you want to follow the rules, it would be the second and the third paragraphs, and it’s about 150 words. First you have to write the similarities, and if you are going to write four paragraphs, the third paragraph would be the differences between them. The final paragraph is the conclusion where you have to rewrite the ideas and what you prefer. You don’t have to decide on one of them if you don’t like either of them; it’s just to see which is better in your opinion. It’s usually about 35 words with a total of 200 words.

SYNONYM 1

1) motoring = g-driving
2) giant = c-colossus
3) concerned = e-worried
4) branch out = a-diversify
5) extension = d-addition
6) plans = h-strategy
7) solve = f-answer
8) prevent = j-stop
9) fundamentally = b-basically
10) unfortunate = i-regrettable

compare and contrest living in the city or village

The town is a place crowded with people and full of buildings and clubs, streets crowded with cars and motorcycles, whereas the village is a quiet place and the houses are convergent, with small shops and cafés. I’m going to discuss the similarities and the differences between towns and villages.

The first similarity is that both town and village are full of streets so that small cars wouldn’t worry about the roads. A second similarity is that both of them have the same weather, so if there are breezes in the town probably you will find it in the village also. Additionally both of them have the same facilities, like water and electricity. Another one is that both of them have education facilities.

Although there are several similarities there are many differences. The first difference is that in the town you can see that it’s full of buildings and skyscrapers, whereas in the village you might see small buildings. The second difference is that in the city you can find a lot of schools and colleges in addition to universities, whereas in the village you will find only one or two schools and you might find one college. Additionally in the city there are cinemas and sport clubs, in addition to fun areas,   whereas in the village these things do not exist.

All in all I prefer to live in a city rather than a village because living there is more fun and interesting; on the other hand it is not bad to  live in a village and that is because it is a quiet place faraway from traffic and the noises.

UAE now and in the past

Forty years ago, the UAE was only yellow sand with no trees or streets full of light. Nowadays, the UAE is much more beautiful than ever with these tall buildings, and green trees. I’m going to discuss the similarities and the differences between Abu Dhabi now and before.

There are many similarities, and the first similarity is that both the UAE now and in the past has the same royal family which is called Al Nayan. The second similarity is that there is the same religion and it’s Islam. You can find that the UAE’s weather has never changed. Additionally the UAE in the past and now has the same traditions. In the past people in the UAE spoke Arabic language, and so it is today.

Although there are many similarities, there are several differences, and one of them is that in the past, people used to work in several jobs like fishing and grazing sheep, but nowadays, people can find jobs in many places like a fireman or a banker. Another one is that the UAE in the past had no schools; people used to take their children to the mosques where the Motwa taught them the holy Quran, whereas nowadays, you can find schools and colleges everywhere.

All in all, I prefer to live at this time, where you can find a lot of things than to live in the past where there were no cars and AC around you. However, the only reason I want to live in the past UAE is that there was no air pollution so that of course this is good for health.

Reflection

I’m going to tell you how to write an essay. As Mr. Hedley taught us, we have to write three paragraphs, and each paragraph has a different name. The first paragraph is called the introduction, and it has to be between 35-40 words and without any mistakes. The second paragraph is called the body, and it’s between 80-95 words, but you can write more than that if you want to. The final paragraph is called the conclusion, and it’s about 20 words and of course without any mistakes. Mr. Hedley told us that the total number of words in the essay is about 150 words, but I usually write about 200 words.

How to make butter

Many people in the world like to eat butter whether it’s with bread, or in many meals. However, few people know where it comes from. I’m going to explain how to get good quality butter.

The first step is to check the fresh milk for the quality and fat content. The second step is to leave the milk to cool. Then, separate the cream from the milk. After that, you have to churn the cream. Next, it’s important to drain the buttermilk from the butter. Then, you have to place the butter in a jar. After that, wash the butter with cold water, to remove remaining buttermilk. Thereafter, you have to add a small amount of salt for flavor. Next, you have to cut and wrap the butter. Finally, you have to store it in a fridge.

As we have seen, it’s easy to do this procedure if you follow the steps carefully.

ATM

Many people in the world put their money in a bank that they trust in, but not all of them know how to use an ATM correctly. I’m going to explain how to use it in the right order.

First, you have to get a credit card from your bank such as Master card or VISA. Second, enter your card in to the ATM. Then, if you are in one of the Arab countries, it will ask you to choose a language, either Arabic or English followed by a password .Next, you can choose the amount of money you want on the list, or you can choose your own number of money by pressing another amount. After that, you can choose whether you want a receipt or not. Finally, you have to take the credit card out, then take the money out and enjoy it.

As we have seen, it looks so difficult to do this procedure, but if you follow the steps it will be a piece of cake.
